Greek Isles Modern Quilt

For the 2017 Blogger’s Quilt Festival, I thought I would share Blue Bear’s most popular pattern, Greek Isles Modern.

This pattern is much easier than it looks. It is made with 2.5″ strips of white and 2.5″ strips of light, medium and dark batiks, that you may obtain from jelly rolls, or cut on your 2.5″ strip die with your Accuquilt Go! Cutter. The blocks are all constructed the same way, and placement is what determines the pattern. At 70 x 90,” it is the perfect quilt to curl up with on the couch for binge watching your favorite Netflix shows.

Here is a picture of Kim at Keep Me in Stitches in Largo, Florida, quilting this beauty; followed by a close up of her fantastic quilting.

Here are several more photos of the quilt out and about.

I have taught this class several times and here are some of my students interpretations of the quilt. Click on the links for short videos. They did a fantastic job!

  2. Lovely quilt, especially with all the beautiful shades of blue.

    1. Thank you Karen.

  3. A lovely pattern – very effective to get such a complex effect from simple pieces. Great photos, too.

    1. Thanks Jan. Yes, I love how it looks complex, but it is not at all.

  4. This looks like a REALLY complicated design! Please tell me that it’s easier than it would appear.

    1. thanks for your comment Joyful Quilter. It does look complicated, but it is really super easy!

  5. your greek isles quilt is beautifully blue, like the Greek isles!

    1. Thank you Ana Marie. My hope is that it reminds people of the Greek Isles.

  6. Beautiful pattern. I’m taking the class on Friday at World Quilt Expo. Wondering if it can be made smaller?

    1. Thank you for taking the class Ann. I hope I was able to show you how to make it smaller. Would love to see a picture of your completed quilt.

      1. My granddaughter has chosen this beautiful design for me to make her wedding quilt. She would like to have a KING size quilt. Can you give me instructions for enlarging the pattern?

        1. Hi Becky, I am happy you like the design. I am not sue why your email did not go to my email. but I am just seeing this, so I apologize for the delay. I have two suggestions for you. You could enlarge the inner and outer borders to get the desired size, or you could add another set of blocks around the entire quilt. That would make it 10 rows and 8 columns. I hope this helps and your daughter is very lucky to be receiving a quilt from you. Reed
